Plumbing Tips 🚿🛁
Posted By on February 19, 2021
Below are a few tips and reminders that will help make your experience at home much more enjoyable.
Slow draining sinks and showers are caused by a build-up of food in the kitchen, or hair, creams, and gels in the bathroom.
Slow draining bathroom sinks and showers are the most common question. To help prevent this, we recommend that you do the following;
• Bathroom Sinks (weekly)– Fill up the sink with hot water. Once the sink is filled, release the stopper. Keep the hot water running until the sink is completing drained. This water pressure will flush out any gels and creams that may be coating the pipes.
• Shower Drains (weekly) – If you are fortunate enough to have long hair, we would recommend having a hair trap over the shower drain that can be cleaned weekly, and would prevent hair from getting clogged in the drain.
• Bathtubs (monthly) – Although you may not use your bathtub, the bathtubs are connected to kitchen sinks above. To prevent clogs in the line at your elevation and to keep the p-traps in your plumbing active, we recommend filling the tub between 1/4 and 1/2 with hot water and then releasing the stopper.
• Kitchen Sink (weekly) – On a weekly basis, please fill your kitchen sink with hot water. Pull the stopper once it is filled. If you have a side-by-side sink, fill both sides before releasing the stopper.
Please remember not to put food down the kitchen drain or in the garbage disposal as the pipes cannot tolerate much. Clean plates into the garbage can, not the sink and before placing them in the dishwasher.
Toilet paper is the only item that should be thrown in toilets. Do not use wet wipes, even if the package says that it is safe. It is not safe in a high rise.
Liquid drain cleaners should not be used. They have a tendency to breakdown the rubber that connects the pipes throughout the building.
If any of your drains are backing up when you are not using them, immediately call the Front Desk at (619) 696-6402.
